A Note about Ceramic Bearings CycleOps has chosen the finest ABEC 5 rated ceramic bearings for use in the PowerTap SLC+ hub. However, as with any ceramic bearing, certain precautions should be taken to ensure proper function. Ceramic bearings achieve their lower rolling resistance by using a harder ball. However, this harder ball can damage the race under severe impact loads. For this reason, ceramic bearings are best limited to road usage. The ceramic bearings in your PowrTap SLC+ use a lighter seal than a standard bearing to further reduce friction, extra care should be taken to reduce the risk of dirt and debris contaminating your bearings. Do not pressure wash or submerge your PowerTap. To maintain your warranty, any service or maintenance, including de-greasing and re-lubing, of your PowerTap bearings should be performed by Saris Cycling Group only.
